The first step is a consultation to make sure there are no other dental issues that need addressing. Then, a custom treatment plan will be agreed upon and appointments made.

Larger restorative or aesthetic treatment plans may be completed first or in combination with various whitening treatments.

Sometimes In Office Whitening is required, however whitening overnight with custom trays still remains the Gold Standard when it comes to results and longevity.

These trays are made in a lab after moulds are taken of your teeth. The trays are then used to hold the whitening gel very close to your teeth so that its ingredients interact with the tooth surface and the teeth gradually become brighter in a matter of weeks.

In some complex cases the process takes much longer, but a timeline will be discussed before treatment commences.

Some patients worry about sensitivity; this will be addressed during your consultation and during treatment to make sure you are comfortable and happy during the procedure.

Another frequent concern is whether or not teeth whitening damages the enamel. The ingredients in teeth whitening gel does vary as per the brand used and there are different percentages, however teeth whitening under the direction of a fully qualified dentist is safe, controlled and legal, so the risk of enamel erosion is low.

It is illegal for anyone who isn’t a registered dentist, dental therapist or hygienist to offer teeth whitening and whitening kits sold online for self-use carry the risk of irreversible damage.
